When you transfer a domain to us, we become your registrar for that domain name and bill you for renewals. It is a good idea to transfer a domain if you are currently paying a higher annual renewal fee, or if you are simply not happy with your current registrar.
Domain transfer is done in three steps:
1) we initiate the transfer.
2) you receive a verification e-mail from your current registrar and confirm the transfer.
3) we gain control of your domain and point it to your hosting account.
The procedure usually takes 2-7 days to complete.
The transfer fee (equal to 1 year renewal) is applied to your domain name registration.
Domain name transfer limitations:

There really isn't a reliable way to screen a potential customer from a resourceful hacker, outside of having received a payment. You must register a domain name and pay for that domain name up front. After the domain propagates (2 or 3 days), you will need to fax proof of payment to us at +1.503.429.6061. First, make sure your nameserver record for your pointed/ad don domain is pointing to: ns1.savannahost.com, and ns2.savannahost.com. After the domain has resolved (2-3 days), you then can log into your web hosting account control panel and choose the "ad don domains" option to setup the domain. You would then upload your files to the directory that you specified in the ad don domain setup process. For example, your main domain files would be placed in /public_html directory. The addon files would be located in /public_html/addon directory.
If you would like to avoid downtime while performing this process, first create a folder within your /public_html directory using the same name as your addon domain (abc.com would be /public_html/abc). Second, upload your files for that domain into that new directory. Once you have completed that, give us a call and we will set up the shell for that domain to point to your files. Your final step is to point the nameservers to: ns1.savannahost.com, and ns2.savannahost.com.
You can have multiple domains point to the same site or to a directory on your site. When you sign up, just choose the main domain you want to use, and later you can login to the control panel and add the other domains through the addon domains section of the control panel. Also, before adding on the extra domains, make sure that you have pointed them to the appropriate name servers (ns1.savannahost.com, and ns2.savannahost.com) with your registrar, and allow sufficient time to propagate across the internet.
Example 1. Abc.com is your main domain. You also own xyz.com, and you would like it pointed to abc.com. This is called a 'parked domain', and can be set up through the 'parked domains' manager in your control panel.
Example 2. Abc.com is your main domain. You also own xyz.com, and rst.com. You would like xyz.com forwarded to rst.com. These two domains would be set up as 'addon domains' through the 'addon domain manager' in your control panel. Finally, you would set up a 'redirect' through the control panel, to point xyz.com to rst.com.
